Top 10 Cedar Fair Roller Coasters

1. “Top Thrill Dragster” – Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)

• Height: 420 feet
• Speed: 120 miles per hour
• Length: 2,800 feet
• Duration: 30 seconds

At the time that it was built, Top Thrill Dragster was the tallest and fastest roller coaster ever built. Overall it is currently the second tallest and third fastest steel roller coaster in the world. With an acceleration of zero to 120 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, Top Thrill Dragster really gives the sensation that you’re on the dragstrip ready to take off.

2. “Fury 325” – Carowinds (Charlotte, North Carolina)

• Height: 325 feet
• Speed: 95 miles per hour
• Length: 6,602 feet
• Duration: 3 minutes 25 seconds

When Fury 325 opened in 2015, it became both the tallest giga coaster (any coaster between 300-400 feet in height) and tied for the second fastest giga coaster at 95 miles per hour. Overall it is currently the seventh fastest, sixth tallest and fifth longest steel roller coaster in the world. This ride is so long that it crosses both North and South Carolina state lines.

3. “Millennium Force” – Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)

• Height: 310 feet
• Speed: 93 miles per hour
• Length: 6,595 feet
• Duration: 2 minutes 20 seconds

When it was built, the Millennium Force was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. It is currently the ninth fastest, eighth tallest, eighth longest steel roller coaster in the world. It was bigger and better than any roller coaster at the time and introduced the category of “giga-coaster.”

4. “Intimidator 305” – King’s Dominion (Doswell, Virginia)

• Height: 305 feet
• Speed: 90 miles per hour
• Length: 5,100 feet
• Duration: 3 minutes

The Intimidator 305 has been described as a mix of both Millennium Force and Maverick at Cedar Point Park. It is currently the 10^th tallest steel roller coaster in the world and was voted the “Best New Roller Coaster of 2010” by Amusement Today. It is named and themed after NASCAR driver and champion Dale Earnhardt, who was also know was the Intimidator.

5. “Diamondback” – Kings Island (Kings Mills, Ohio)

• Height: 230 feet
• Speed: 80 miles per hour
• Length: 5,282 feet
• Duration: 3 minutes

Diamondback was the first hyper coaster to feature a splashdown. These are scoops positioned at the back sides of the last car on each train that sends water soaring as the car passes by. It was ranked ninth in the 2016 Golden Ticket Awards for Top Steel Roller Coasters.

6. “Xcelerator” – Knott’s Berry Farm (Buena Park, California)

• Height: 205 feet
• Speed: 82 miles per hour
• Length: 2,202 feet
• Duration: 1 minute 2 seconds

The Xcelerator accelerates its passengers from zero to 82 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds before immediately sending them 90 degrees straight down. Rides like the Xcelerator paved the way for taller, faster rides like the Top Thrill Dragster.

7. “Steel Force” – Dorney Park (Allentown, Pennsylvania)

• Height: 200 feet
• Speed: 75 miles per hour
• Length: 5,600 feet
• Duration: 3 minutes

When it opened, Steel Force was the tallest free-standing roller coaster and the first to break the 200-foot barrier on the East Coast. Currently, it is tied for the ninth longest steel roller coaster in the world.

8. “The Beast” – Kings Island (Kings Mills, Ohio)

• Height: 110 feet
• Speed: 65 miles per hour
• Length: 7,359 feet
• Duration: 4 minutes 10 seconds

The Beast is the longest wooden roller coaster in the world and has been since 1979. It is also the eighth fastest and has the 10^th longest drop for a wooden roller coaster. The Beast utilizes the natural rolling hills and surrounding terrain. It was ranked sixth in the 2016 Golden Ticket Awards for Top Wooden Roller Coasters.

9. “Nighthawk” – Carowinds (Charlotte, North Carolina)

• Height: 115 feet
• Speed: 51 miles per hour
• Length: 2,766 feet
• Duration: 1 minute 50 seconds

Nighthawk was “the world’s first true flying coaster.” Once riders are seated and restrained, the train tilts backward and later flips them over to give them the flying sensation.

10. “Mamba” – Worlds of Fun (Kansas City, Missouri)

• Speed: 75 miles per hour
• Length: 5,600 feet
• Duration: 3 minutes

Mamba is tied for the ninth longest steel roller coaster in the world and has two hills of over 180 feet. It was also only the eighth hyper coaster built in the world.
